Vintage rolex submariner gold & steel diver's watch reference 16613, a collection watch manufactured by rolex between 1988 and 2010 with 3 evolutions over this period tritium dial (marked Swiss-T>25 or T-Swiss-T), luminova dial (marked Swiss at 6 o'clock) and superluminova (marked Swiss Made). It is nicknamed "sultan" in the world of the collection and this rare tritium dial model of the first generation of 16613 is also equipped with a rare collection dial with pointed indexes enhanced with tritium called "nipple dial".
"Nipple" dials in the rolex community refer to a series of rare dials mounted exceptionally on vintage editions of rolex gmt master or rolex submariner models in gold and less commonly on two-tone gold and steel models. These collector's dials (with the Rolex crown in Gold insert under the upper triangular index) were manufactured in 3 background colors: black, brown and blue. Rolex no longer manufactures this type of Tritium dial today, the story of which begins with the GMT Master 6542 model in gold with a brown background and ends in the mid-1980s with the gmt master gold and steel 16753. For the submariner model , only with a black or blue background, the first "nipple" dials were used on a few examples of the yellow gold submariner reference ref 1680, then on the reference 16808 in gold and on a few rare 16613 models in gold and steel.
The arrival of the luminova will put an end to the production of these dials which today constitute a sought-after distinction in the club of large collection vintage rolexes.
