Watch Omega Speedmaster Snoopy award eyes on stars limited edition full-set ref 3578.51.00 from 2004. A watch in a limited series of 5441 copies in tribute to the duration of the NASA Apollo 13 space mission, whose total flight time was one hundred and forty-two hours, fifty-four minutes and forty-one seconds. (i.e. 5441 minutes). A rare watch that celebrates the silver snoopy award from NASA received on October 5 1970 by Omega for the important use of the Omega Speedmaster chronograph by astronauts during the return to earth of the Apollo 13 astronauts.
Chronograph in steel Speedmaster 42mm in diameter with manual mechanical winding equipped with Omega Caliber 1861 movement with 18 jewels. This movement operates at twenty-one thousand eight hundred vibrations per hour, has an operating autonomy reserve of forty-five hours after complete winding and displays a small second in the left-hand totalizer, adorned with the silver snoopy eyes on stars logo. The chronograph module is of the stop-and-go type and is based on a base of the Lemania 1873 calibre. This collector's item is part of the omega watch models dedicated to NASA space missions, a collection initiated by Omega under the direction of Jean Claude Biver at the end of the nineties with the support of Nicolas Hayek, Sr, at the time head of what would become the swatch group.
The case of the Speedmaster snoopy eyes on stars has a screwed bottom and is water resistant to 30 m. This background is decorated with a unique screen print featuring the snoopy eyes on stars logo. The case bears the words limited edition and a specific copy number also found on the certificate of authenticity attached with the complete set and whose photos appear above. The case is adorned with a circled tachymeter which surrounds a hesalyte (plexiglass) glass which protects the dial. Dial black background with white inscriptions with luminova indexes and mention swiss made at the bottom of the dial. Circular time rail graduated to one-fifth of a second.
In terms of use, this chronograph is a must in the world of space and speed. It is of the stop-&-go type and is used by activating the top pusher (located at 2 o'clock), which triggers the start of the chronograph (visible by the rotation of the central second hand), which will drive the two totalizers in twelve hours at the bottom and thirty minutes on the right of the dial. The timer stops by action on the top pusher, and the chronometric sphere is reset by action on the bottom pusher (after the timer has stopped). The steel bracelet has adjustable links (by adding or removing) and is finished with a branded folding clasp.
In terms of the collection, this exceptional piece is a scarce and highly sought-after watch since Omega no longer produces limited series pieces. Rare on the second-hand market, it will be an acquisition of choice in a collection theme dedicated to space and aerospace.
